PHP 8.1 vs 8.2 vs 8.3: Which Should You Use?

PHP powers 75%+ of the web, including WordPress. The version you run matters more than most people think.

PHP 8.3 — the current sweet spot

Released late 2023, PHP 8.3 is faster than 8.2, has better error handling, and is supported until November 2027. If your apps are compatible, this is the version to run.

PHP 8.2 — the safe choice

Supported until December 2026. Choose 8.2 if a critical plugin or legacy app has not been tested on 8.3 yet.

PHP 8.1 — plan your upgrade

Security support ends December 2025. If you are still on 8.1, schedule an upgrade — running EOL PHP is a security risk.

How to switch safely

  1. Take a full backup first.
  2. Switch the version in your hosting panel (one click on K Host).
  3. Load key pages and check for errors.
  4. Watch error logs for 24 hours before calling it done.
