How to Migrate WordPress with Zero Downtime

Moving hosts does not have to mean downtime. Here is the professional process, step by step.

Phase 1: Copy everything

Export the database and copy all files to the new host. Do not change DNS yet — build the site on a temporary URL or hosts-file override first.

Phase 2: Test thoroughly

Click through every page type: homepage, posts, checkout, contact forms, search. Check that uploads, plugins, and scheduled tasks work. Fix issues now, while the old site is still live.

Phase 3: The switch

  1. Lower your DNS TTL to 300 seconds 24 hours before the move.
  2. Put the old site in maintenance mode briefly and do a final database sync (catches new orders/comments).
  3. Update DNS to the new server.
  4. Monitor for 48 hours, then cancel the old hosting.

The easy way

On K Host, free migration means we do all of this for you — tested, zero downtime, no technical work on your side.
