Migrating from HTTP to HTTPS Without Losing Rankings

Still on HTTP in 2026? Browsers flag your site "Not Secure" and you are leaving SEO value on the table. Here is the safe migration path.

Before the switch

  • Take a full backup.
  • Inventory all hardcoded http:// URLs in your content and templates.

The migration

  1. Install the SSL certificate (one click on K Host).
  2. Update all internal links to HTTPS.
  3. Add a 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS for every URL.
  4. Fix mixed content — images, scripts, or CSS still loading over HTTP will break the padlock.
  5. Update canonical tags and sitemap to HTTPS URLs.

After the switch

  • Add the HTTPS property in Google Search Console (it treats HTTP/HTTPS as separate properties).
  • Update Google Analytics and any ad platform URLs.
  • Monitor rankings for 2–4 weeks — a tiny temporary dip is normal, then recovery.
